Andrea Pelt-Thornton is an IT Agile Delivery Manager at NextEra Energy / Florida Power and Light Company. In this role, she actively delivers Data Analytics and enterprise collaboration solutions for the corporation. As a member of the NextEra Energy Corporate Diversity Council, and past president of the African American Professional Employee Group, Andrea provides high level strategic direction to corporate-wide diversity and inclusion initiatives.
In her 38 years of service as an Information Technology professional, Andrea has led several major corporate IT programs, including business process transformation to leverage FPL’s new Smart Grid infrastructure. Andrea has also led the development and maintenance of mission critical Customer systems for FPL’s more than 5 million customer accounts.
Andrea is active in various professional organizations including the Utility Analytics Institute Executive Advisory Council, and the Board of Directors for the Customer Service Week Conference (CS Week), delivering professional educational opportunities for utilities. She is also a past President of the Florida Chapter of the American Association of Blacks in Energy.
Raised in Miami, Florida, Andrea is committed to public service. She is President of the Delta Education, Health and Cultural Initiative, Inc., a non-profit organization which enriches the South Florida community. Additionally, Andrea is an active member of The Links Incorporated, Fort Lauderdale Chapter where she is the past Vice President of Programs. Andrea is a Director of the Black Archives Foundation in Miami, Florida, and a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, where she has served in leadership roles nationally, regionally, and locally as president of the Miami Alumnae Chapter. An NAACP Life Member, Andrea fondly served for several years as part of the ACT-SO Committee for the Miami-Dade Branch of the NAACP.
In recognition of committed service, Andrea was acknowledged by Legacy Magazine as one of South Florida’s Most Influential Business Leaders of 2018. She also received the Delta Sigma Theta Miami Alumnae Chapter 2019 Professional Achievement Award. Andrea is also a member of the prestigious Florida Blue Key leadership honorary, in recognition of outstanding leadership and public service to the University of Florida and the Sunshine State.
Ms. Pelt-Thornton holds an MBA from Nova University, and a BS degree in Business Administration from the University of Florida. Together with husband Stanley and son Jeffrey, Andrea loves travel, football, basketball, and family fun.
