Scholarship Committee Report

- The AABE Florida Scholarship Program continues to support students pursuing careers in energy through STEM disciplines.

Black Energy Awareness Month (BEAM) 2024

- BEAM is an annual initiative held in October to introduce students and community members to energy careers, concepts, and technologies.
- In 2024, BEAM partnered with National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) Collegiate Chapters at:
- Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University & Florida State University
- University of South Florida
- University of Florida
- University of Central Florida
- BEAM 2024 Impact:
- Career fair and networking events with industry professionals.
- 130+ NSBE student participants engaged in mentorship and internship opportunities.
Northeast Florida BEAM Initiative
Presented by LaMiriam Johnson, JEA
- The 2nd BEAM Project took place from October 28-30, 2024, at Minds of the Future Academy in Jacksonville, FL.
- Engaged approximately 200 students (K-12) in hands-on energy education activities.
South Florida Region Updates
Presented by Dion Watson and Jasmine Govan, NextEra Energy
- Hosted a Holiday Social on December 5, 2024, to strengthen connections within the chapter.
- Video Recap & Media Coverage: Showcased the chapter’s efforts in community engagement and student outreach.
AABE Florida 2024 Goals
- Expand Community Partnerships to support educational and career development initiatives.
- Leverage Technology to enhance member engagement and mentorship programs.
- Improve Communication by updating the website and strengthening social media presence.
